What is a Beyblade?
Beyblades are customizable spinning tops first produced by Takara in 1999, then manufactured worldwide by Hasbro. They are released by inserting the ripcord/winder in the shooter, then pulling on the ripcord to make the place where the blade was placed rotate and shoot it downwards. There are four types of beyblades attack, defence, endurance and combination.
There were several series of beyblades made
Basic System (4-Layer Series)
- Bit Chip and Bit Chip Protector a small, decorative plate which sometimes illustrates a Bit-Beast.
- Attack Ring (AR) obviously important in attack since it is mostly its spikes that hit the other beyblade.
- Weight Disk (WD) determines the blade`s balance, weight and endurance a heavier weight disk will be able to defend against an opponent more easily than a lighter weight disk. For this series, it is hexagonal.
- Blade Base (BB) its tip usually makes contact first with the stadium floor and maintains it throughout the whole battle. In this series, the Spin Gear (SG), which is used to decide the beyblade`s spin direction, is attached to the Blade Base.
With the new S and F series of beyblades, the Weight Disks were now octogonal and the Spin Gear was not attached to the blade base anymore, so you could change it with another from a different blade.
Most Attack Rings of the 4-Layer Series are thinner than the ones that were produced afterwards.
Magnacore System
This system has five layers (above + interchangeable Spin Gear). Basically, the difference with other series is that the Spin Gear and Weight Disk are magnetic. This means two beyblades of the Magnacore series can repel each other due to the magnetic force.
Magnets can also be placed under the stadium to physically move beyblades. Those magnets can either attract the blade or repulse it, making it hard for the beyblade to move sometimes.
Engine Gear System
Engine Gear (EG) cores are a category of Spin Gears. When activated, the Engine Gear core increases the beyblade`s speed and power slightly. The parts for Engine Gear blades are the same as the 4-Layer series, except that the Spin Gear is replaced by an Engine Gear core.
A Turbo Winder comes with all Engine Gears. This allows the blader to manually determine what type of Engine Gear they wish to have due to the clutch lock system of the Blade Base. These are the types of Engine Gears
- Type 1 / Instant Release activates the Engine Gear at the very beginning of the battle, when the beyblade`s speed has not yet been affected by the lenght of the fight or the opponent`s hits. Sometimes called “First Clutch Engine Gear”.
- Type 2 / Steady Release the Engine Gear is triggered gradually throughout the battle.
- Type 3 / Hit Release will release the EG only if the blade hits/is hit by another beyblade or the stadium walls. The release of extra speed is caused by the Clutch Levers that are situated on the BB`s side the impact of the blade or wall will push them in.
- Type 4 / Gyro Gear the tip of the beyblade will spin independently to the rest of the blade, meaning it will only be slightly disturbed by hits on the upper part of the top.
- Type 5 / Turbo Left will give a more powerful, yet shorter burst of speed to left spin blades.
- Type 6 / Hit Reverse this Engine Gear will spin in a different direction than the blade`s. The top will spin around the stadium differently.
The four GT series beyblades, as well as Flame Pegasus, came with an Engine Gear that has a slot for interchangeable Customizable Engine Weights (CEW). There were six CEWs released
– Light ex. Takara`s Zeus) – Metal ex. Flame Pegasus) – Metal Grip (ex. Dragoon GT) – Metal Semi-Flat (ex. Dranzer GT) – Metal Change (ex. Gigars) – Metal Ball ex. Hasbro`s Zeus)
Heavy/Hard Metal System
Contrarily to other series, the Heavy/Hard Metal System uses smaller pieces of metal. The four layers of HMS beyblades are similar to the Basic System except that the Blade Base is a Running Core. Also, the Weight Disks are now circular. Customizable Weight Disks, made of plastic or metal parts, are also available for HMS beyblades.
Engine Gears and Spin Gears are not used for the Heavy/Hard Metal System since the blades of this series can be launched from both directions with a HMS Neo Dual Launcher.

Cross Arms Series
These are action figures representing holy beasts which you can “transform” into spinning tops. They are launched with a Dragon Winder.

Metal Fight Beyblade
|
This new series is called “Metal Fight” because the Attack Ring (now the Wheel) is entirely made of metal. For this reason, the Weight Disk was removed from the beyblades because it is the Wheel which will now serve as a weight.
The Face (equivalent of the Bit Piece) holds the Track and the Wheel together. It is like a screw that you insert into the Track.
The Track looks like an Engine Gear.
The Bottom (originally the tip of the Blade Base) can now be customized.
There are four types of beyblades in this series Attack / Defense / Balance / Stamina
As of now, only the Horoscope series (Pegasus, Cheiron, Bull, Leo and Wolf) are known to be distributed as Metal Fight Beyblade. Most of those blades will be released on August 9th.
(Note the schema is approximative, yet it is documented.)

Hybrid Wheel System
As the first sub-system of the new Metal Fight Beyblade series, the Hybrid Wheel System will obviously still be constructed with the same four parts a Face, a Wheel, a Track and a Bottom. However, the Wheel consists of two layers one made in plastic that goes on top of a metal plate. All parts can be modified with previous Faces, Tracks and Bottoms, as well as the new of Hybrid Wheels (Storm Pegasis, Dark Wolf, Rock Leone, Flame Sagittario, Mad Cancer, etc.). Perhaps these Wheels will be able to go in both right and left spin, but there is no information one multi-directional launcher yet / old launchers should still work on the new system blades. |
